In honor of Stand Up For Our Schools! We are going to honor the person or book that got you into reading.

My story:I honestly don’t remember what got me to love reading. My mom read to us daily when we were little and one day, not too far into Kindergarten, the words on the page just clicked! I could read! From then on I always had my nose in a book! I did not just love to read, but I was good at it too. I would read everything I could get my hands on and devour every word. Every reading contest held at school? I would pass everyone, not just once, but multiple times!

One of my many favorite books is actually reviewed here on this site! The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles by Julie Andrews. Fabulous read!

Dr. O’Reilly and Dr. Laverty are at it again in this delightful sequel to An Irish Country Doctor!

Patrick Taylor does a fantastic job in picking up right where he left off in the previous novel. Dr. Laverty finds himself in a bit of a pickle in both his personal life and professional life. When the death of a patient leaves his career in the balance, Dr. O’Reilly is there to help and support him through his predicament. Let’s not forget about Dr. Laverty’s love life! Patricia is a strong willed woman working on a scholarship to college that will take her far from Dr. Laverty for at least a few years; he is devastated that his sweetie is leaving, but swears he’ll wait for her! Bishop continues to be his buggered self and is causing quite an uproar when he threatens to take over the town’s beloved pub; will Dr. O’Reilly find a way to stop this from happening?

My Two Cents
Just like the first novel in the series, An Irish Country Doctor, this novel is a great follow-up! I had a great time reading An Irish Country Village while sipping on my cup of tea (and an occasional beer). As I mentioned in the previous review of An Irish Country Doctor, I didn’t really care for the Know-it-all attitude of Dr. Laverty, but that has all changed in this book. I think some of the obstacles he encounters has humbled him a bit and has really turned him into quite an enjoyable character. I even found myself pitying and rooting for him at points! I still absolutely adore Dr. O’Reilly, I think he must remind of my own first pediatrician. Dr. O’Reilly is somebody I would love to sit down with at a pub and have a beer with; I’m not really a whiskey fan. Now, in this novel there are several returning characters and some new ones; all of them had their own little story line that is fun to follow. I really love Maggie and Sonny’s love story, but the character that really got me this time around is Donal. He is hilarious and some of his adventures has me laughing out loud. And then there’s Kinky. She is adorable, but also such a strong figure in the household; it really does take a woman behind the scenes to make things run properly. I love how she keeps O’Reilly’s diet in check and she always has great things to say to make Dr. Laverty feel better.

I am sticking by my original recommendation for this series and would recommend this second book to anyone looking for a fun, delightful book to curl up on the couch or big cushy chair with a hot cup or tea. Having a storm brewing outside to increase the coziness really helps!
