Stitch and Bitch by Debbie Stroller is what I consider the best “how to” book out there. In addition to being a book lover and avid reader, I am in love with knitting and yarns. I chose this book as my first knitting book for this site because, well it’s time to integrate a little of the knit art into this book review site.
The author takes a comical and real approach to knitting making the techniques easy to understand and follow. The diagrams of stitches are also easy to understand and replicate. One day I got the notion to learn how to knit; not knowing anyone that could teach me properly, I picked up Stitch and Bitch and by the end of the weekend I could successfully knit a scarf! People are always amazed when I tell them that I learned how to knit from a book. I currently consider myself a novice knitter, but I am out of the beginners category when it comes to knitting! I recently knit my first sweater and can whip up hats like it’s nobody’s business! I would categorize this book as a “Tea Drinking Readers” book, but it’s hard to hold a cup of hot steaming tea while your hands are tangled up with yarn and needles. I always have a hot cup of tea next to me while knitting, but unfortunately not much gets drank while I’m working on a project. Honestly, this book is a must for anyone wanting to take on the task of learning how to knit.
